Because the dance was first done as a way of adoration for gods and goddesses, dancers tended to dress modestly. Hollywood's influence throughout time led to the development of a more modern fashion sense for the Indian market. Bollywood dances from now feature a lot of gaudy jewelry and vibrant apparel.
